Frequently Asked Questions about Mt. Lindsey

Is Mount Lindsey located on public land, and do I need permission to climb it?

No, the upper slopes and the summit of Mount Lindsey are strictly private property owned by the Trinchera Blanca Ranch. Following an extended liability closure, the peak is open exclusively via a mandatory liability waiver system, which you must sign online the Mount Lindsey Waiver before starting your hike. The Waiver Form for Minors needs to be filled out and signed by a guardian on behalf of the minor, and each minor must be accompanied by an adult who has signed the Waiver.

What is the "Crux Wall" on the Northwest Ridge and what class is it rated?

The Crux Wall is a steep, intimidating headwall located a little more than halfway up the final summit ridge line. You can choose a Class 3 option along the left side of the wall, or you can opt for a spicier, direct Class 4 vertical line up a brief, solid rock pitch.

Can a standard passenger car safely drive all the way to the Lily Lake Trailhead?

No, low-clearance vehicles cannot safely manage the final two miles of Forest Road 580. While the first 20 miles of dirt road from Gardner are passable for most 2WD vehicles, the road degrades into a steep, rough 4WD track past the historic landslide area, forcing standard cars to park lower and walk the remaining road.

Is there a secondary trailhead or alternative legal access point for this peak?

No, there is only one legal entrance point authorized by the landowner. You must exclusively use the Huerfano Valley approach starting from the Lily Lake Trailhead; attempting to access the mountain from any other basin, ridge, or neighboring ranch property boundary constitutes illegal trespassing and risks shutting down public access entirely.
