Fourmile Creek Trailhead

Info: Dry, but increasingly rugged as you progress toward the gate. I parked my Nissan Frontier 4WD all the way up yesterday. As usual, many parked lower. I suspect some were in pursuit of the 3,000' elevation gain qualification. Others probably because their vehicle was not having fun on the road.

Info: I climbed Mount Sherman today. 4 Mile Creek Road is as described, however, if you follow Google GPS, you may want to be careful about being redirected by your GPS. My GPS led me to turn right onto Coil drive, left onto Foxtail drive, right onto Bluestem way, right onto Thompson Park Road, and then a right back onto 4 Mile Creek Road. Thompson Park Road is a borderline 4WD road so be extra careful about following GPS if you have a low clearance and/or 2WD vehicle. I would suggest just following 4 Mile Creek Road all the way to the trailhead like this site recommends.

Info: Road is open all the way to the TH. The road is in better shape than most years for just after melt out. There are two spots where water flow has cut some new ruts in the road but there were still a Corolla and an Accord at the gate at the TH.

Info: Road is dry up until about a half mile past the Leavick where there's plenty of parking room. Past that there's a lot of deeply rutted snow on the road where the center has been scraped flat and the tires tracks are frozen mud in the morning and very non-frozen mud in the afternoon - mud splattered up over the roof on the way out, especially at the huge mud puddle right before the road becomes dry again. Parked at 11,600ft a little less than a mile from the summer trailhead. That's as far as it's feasible to go for now but the lower section is melting fast so might be able to reach the summer trailhead in a couple weeks unless the coming storm pushes that timetable back.

Info: Plowed and mostly clear up to at least 11600, possibly the gate. That one pesky drift is still in below the Horseshoe campground but never posed an issue. I'm not sure how this will hold up after tonight's storm.

Info: I parked at 39.19163, -106.07033 (5.2mi from summer TH) in a Subaru with snow tires, on the advice of some guys who stopped there with even more capable vehicles. But I suspect I could have made it further. The "snow tires" part is pretty important, I was already driving on snow for a few miles before where I parked. Where I parked is where the tire ruts ended - but past that the snow was pretty packed by snowmobile traffic.

Info: As of noon 11/19/23 the conditions are the same as the last comment. Low clearance 2wd vehicles will have trouble making it to the top.

Info: Road was intermittent compact snow and ice. Was able to get to high parking area, but it was rough on the last mile. A high ground clearance vehicle with 4 wheel drive made it without much problem.

Info: Snow is covering the road basically all the way to the Sherman TH. It is pretty shallow and not deep enough yet to be an issue for any SUV vehicle, and the ice flow covering the road has not appeared yet.

Info: Sherman TH still accessible by SUV type vehicles. Volkswagon Jetta made it to just past Leavick Mine today as well.
