Trespassing on culebra is awesome.

Trespassing is a way to protest the unjust system of private land in this country and it is a victimless crime. Awesome. So when you go let the ranch know you're coming. That way it makes the whole thing simpler for the sheriff.

The irony and hypocrisy of some of the statements in this thread are almost laughable.

I wonder if any of the people on this thread would fight this hard for access to 6262 on the Hogback (it has a house on it) or any of the other private peaks in Jefferson County.

Appreciate the comment. Many good points. If I don’t do Culebra as a part of the record (I potentially have legal access not through Carlos), I would never proclaim that I have. I would be very open about it. All I’m saying is that it’s about damn time the record changes given the absurd circumstances. I have heard people refer to themselves as “ABC finishers”- anything but culebra. I would be the first woman to ever do a self-supported speed record. And a record for all the legal ones could be a category of its own. This would be a way to compare pure athletic and mental fortitude without all the other stuff.

If you're the first woman doing self-supported, you set the standard. Why sweat Culebra? Just do the rest. You said you were doing this for you.

Even better, do the rest and come back for Culebra when it reopens in the winter. If you're the first woman doing self-supported, you'll likely still get the FKT even if you wait 6 months to get the last one. Unless another woman doing it self-supported has a ticket for this summer I guess...

There's a difference between 6,262 where the high point appears to be the guy's driveway (ask me how I know) and the Culebra Range where the peaks are far above and far away from the homes. If Carlos had built his home on the summit of Culebra it'd be another matter, but conflating empty private land with standing within view of someone watching TV from their easy chair is asinine. And I say this as someone who didn't want to pay the ranch $1,300 to do things the legal way but did it anyway, and who also trespasses constantly and deliberately.

Side note, for those saying trespassing means you can't get an FKT, guess there's no 13er FKT because of the Boulder watershed, Bar NI, and Bartlett. We didn't need a 13er FKT anyway.

House blocks are unfortunate, but luckily there are only a handful. Expanding public land is a solution that prevents more of them from popping up. And, yes, I think we should fight for access in Jefferson County. There are far too many private peaks, and the foothills are a valuable ecosystem just like the higher stuff. In terms of hogbacks, I'm more interested in opening up the Ken Caryl hogbacks and 6215 than 6262, but I guess you were just picking an example that makes public access sound ridiculous.

I think there are a lot more than people realize, even in rural areas. Mountain/peak top homes is a thing in Colorado.

It's a bad idea to summit peaks with a home on top at night, they'll think you're robbing their house.

Much better to do it during the day. If you can car jack an Amazon van or FedEx truck to approach the home, you should.

Then it would be an FKT for that list of peaks... a list no one else has done. Got for it. Have fun. Be safe.

For it to be a FKT of the 14ers... it has to be the same peaks, the same list. And that has always included Culebra.
What about the other peaks that are currently private and saying no trespassing?

The 14er FKT won't change due to private property. But people might have to wait to accomplish it again.

Similarly, just pointing out that if someone does trespass and gets the FKT, it's still an FKT despite the trespassing.

Do you know how much environmental pollution has been put on this Earth from the pursuit of technology that allowed you to type that post?

Maybe you could setup a group-centric FKT attempt of the Colorado 14ers and lead your flock to the top of Culebra without any prior reservations. Show us how you're sticking it to the man with a livestream too.
