The colors on the upper tundra on Longs as you get past tree line were really beautiful today. Also beautiful colors on the tundra slope on Mt Lady Washington just past the chasm junction.

I'm guessing Indy Pass and the Aspen area will peak in about a week, saw some patches of yellow popping out. Might last until the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd.
"The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only home we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need – if only we had the eyes to see." -Ed Abbey
"I get scared sometimes—lots of times—but it's not bad. You know? I feel close to myself. When I'm out there at night, I feel close to my own body, I can feel my blood moving, my skin and my fingernails, everything, it's like I'm full of electricity and I'm glowing in the dark—I'm on fire almost—I'm burning away into nothing—but it doesn't matter because I know exactly who I am." from The Things They Carried

Re: Fall Colors Tracking 2018
Pockets of nice color inbetween Kenosha and Fairplay, but definitely looks like the drought got to a large portion of stands here as there's a lot of muted brown. I'd say maybe 50% turned?
The east side of Monarch Pass is pretty well turned. I'd guestimate about 65-70%. Some really nice pops of color in some areas, and other stands that looked more brown. The west side of the Pass was still mostly green still.
Ridgway/Telluride area still almost all green on the aspen stands, but the smaller shrubs are giving off some nice color right now.

Anyone have any opinions on whether Aspen-Snowmass or IPW/Zirkel will be closer to peak foliage this weekend? I'm taking 3 days and am trying to get the best color sightings.

West side of Indian Peaks Wilderness has some really nice colors right now (not a lot of aspens there, but they are looking nice already)...

Any word from the San Juans? I'll be up there in a week with someone who's never experienced large mountains or fall colors.

Taken on Tuesday, Sep 11, looking east towards Sherman and west towards Massive from the road between Leadville and Iowa Gulch. Colors are brilliant, ranging from green to gold to flaming orange-red.
