From the 2WD parking area, near 11,560', continue up Mosquito Pass road ( 1
) to reach the North London Mine - 2
. Pass the mine and continue up the rough road ( 3
) to reach the 12,650-foot saddle between London Mountain (left) and Kuss Peak (right) - 4
Turn left (east) and follow a trail up London's west ridge ( 5
) to reach a rock tower - 6
. Ascend nearly to the top of this formation before bypassing the last section, on the right. Reach another rock tower ( 8
) and, again, ascend part of it and look for an easy bypass on the right - 9
. It really isn't as difficult as it may appear in the photos and it's easy to keep the difficulty at Class 2.
Past the crux sections, hiking is easier; Stay on or just right of the ridge crest - 10
. When you reach 13,000', the summit is visible but still nearly 0.5 mile away - 12
. Continue along the ridge ( 13
) and up a final pitch ( 14
) to reach the summit - 15
looks back over the ridge.
