Bierstadt and Evans - East Ridge + Sawtooth Loop |
I’ll get the stats out of the way incase that is what you came for.
RT time - 3hr 23min, RT mileage - 5.9 miles, RT elevation gain - 3,200ft.
Ascent Bierstadt 1hr 38 min, traverse Sawtooth 2hr 20min, ascent Evans 3hr 2min and descent 21 min
Super fun route to link up two class 3 ridges. From the small lot along the Mt. Evans rd at 13.3k, park and start hiking left into one of the first gullies on the right, do not follow the maintained trail right in front of the small lot. From the gully, just follow the East ridge route description. It’s August 7th, 2022 and it was a wet mess in the basin, I found it most helpful to hang right after exiting the gully. Once on top of Bierstadt, traverse the Sawtooth and make your way up Evans. Follow the Sawtooth route description, it’s straight forward. Once you are ready to head down from Evans and back to the 13.3k small lot, it’s a short hike back. Hang to the right of the Mt. Evans road and you’ll be there in no time. It’s a pretty dope loop with some fun scrambling that makes for a chill day. Couldn’t find much beta on this so figured I’d write up a quick report. Let me know if any of you guys have done this, would be great to get a route of this loop put up on 14ers, it just makes sense.
