 Perfect day on Sherman

Mt. Sherman - 7/18/21

RT Distance ~5.5 Miles
Gain ~2100 ft
Time to summit ~1 hour 45 mins
Total time ~3 hours 20 mins

Just a quick Trip Report for my climb of Sherman w/ my dad. Hope you enjoy.

Mt. Sherman... arguably one of the "easiest" 14ers in Colorado. While in comparison to other 14ers I have climbed, I will say that it is not as difficult, but I don't really thing any 14er is "easy". This being my first 14er of the summer, I was definitely not in the best shape and this climb was difficult. Nevertheless, it was fun and the weather was perfect.

Pretty mountains. Photo taken on the highway

We arrived at the trailhead at around 7:45 (bit of a late start). I threw on some sunscreen and we started up the trail. We parked just below the gate so we didn't have to walk far to get to the main trail. We started hiking up, though the unrelenting uphill hit me a bit hard at first. There were tons of cool old mining building to look at.

We also found a cool cave with water flowing out of it.

After around a mile of hiking we reached the base of the Sheridan-Sherman saddle.

Going up to the saddle was difficult, but we took are time. We got to the saddle and started up Sherman's ridge.

Sherman's ridge was grueling. The uphill didn't stop, and like I said I was pretty out of shape. But we went slow and steady and eventually the ridge started to level out. There was also a small scrambling section that I had a little fun on.

After the long ridge we reached the summit, which was a long, flat stretch. We walked to the true summit and grabbed some photos. We were very fortunate to have absolutely no wind!

With the summit achieved, we headed back down the mountain. The trail was pretty steep and my knees were hurting pretty bad by the time we got back to the trailhead, but we had successfully summited Sherman!

A last look at Sherman (actually taken during the start of the hike lol)

I really enjoyed this hike and would totally recommend it. Thanks for reading. Happy trails!
