 Antero- Raspberry Gulch Alternate Route

I figured this was a good route to post my first TR on so here it goes. We started a half mile from the TH start around 9600 feet. Veering right at the first intersection on the "standard" route we took a sharp left towards the creek where the "standard" starts to climb towards the ridgeline.

Photo #1 shows the trek up through the trees to peak 11250. After going over 11250 we descended to walk the ridge line to ascend to the mound at 12620. Photo #2 shows the 1000 plus vertical feet to 13680. Photos #4 and #5 show the routes from a distance.

After getting to 13680 it's a little less than 600 feet to the summit. See Photo #3 as you cross the ridge line to the summit. Great route with around 11.2 RT and 4600 plus vertical gain. Photo #6 shows a crude map of the hike. If you are interested I have a GPX file available to send. Enjoy your time and be safe out there.

The Path Least Taken...
8/5/2018 12:53pm
Is the way to go on this particular day! Wow, what an initial climb right out of the box. That slope was just relentless at times. I just wish I would have had the strength and endurance to continue all the way up with you Joe. Nevertheless, it was a great day and I got a really good nap at 12,733' while you tagged the summit all to yourself! I will be thinking of this route for awhile, as I contemplate a return trip to get it done. Congrats on your hardwork to earn your non standard route 14er Joe!

Not sure if you call this the SE ridge or the East ridge?

If you try this route, here's one bit of advice, when approaching the top of 11,250', don't be tempted to cut the slope toward a little dip in the far ridge. We tried, but it's just a nasty slope full of small talus and loose scree, not worth the trouble, just go over the top and be glad you did. You'll thank me later.
