Hi my name is milo. my age is 9. I am going to tell you about my family's trip up sherman. The last time we tried me and my mother did not make it to the top. The wind made me want to go down. it was very strong we nearly lost the hat on my head. good thing i caught it before it blew away.
We decided to try again. this is the beginning when we were at the first abandoned mine.
the begening
We continued up from there to a hill leading up to another mine. We hiked up the hill with another group of hikers .We reached the top of the hill the others continued up the mountain
We could see where we had turned around last time.
we hit a boulder field were it continued into a snow bank. 2 obstacles in one
We broke out the first snack and continued up into a snowbank and on the saddle of the mountain. We were beginning to feel the wind that made us turn around. Not a good sign. We made it onto the first hump. The wind picked up. I started losing hope.I continued to push up the ridge.I hit the spot where we turned around my dad encouraged me to keep going. I continued and hit the summit. It expanded out onto flat ground and cairns were laid out the final one on the summit curved around i laid there legs sprawled out we had made it!
The way down was easier than going up. we went down the humps. Right before the saddle i felt a bit queasy. it was me going downhill. We hit the snowbank. some other hikers were sliding down like a slide
we hit the second mine it continued down to the valley.Sun was everywhere but as soon as we got to the valley the sun was behind a cloud.
As soon as we hit the first mine my knee felt bad i almost did not make it . my poles made some good makeshift crutches. i hit the car i was so proud of myself the end.
My advise tho kids would be that if you are able to think about anything besides the mountain the hike will go much faster.
My advise to parents is that you should tell your kids to drink lots and lots of water.

That's a great accomplishment. I hope you enjoy climbing many more mountains with your parents. Just remember, it won't be long and you'll be waiting for them rather than them waiting for you.
Wow, Milo! I really liked reading your report. You have quite a story to tell your friends, some great pictures, and some future climbs ahead of you! I'm looking forward to hearing about your next adventure... :)
Great job. My 10 year old daughter made Sherman last year. She made Evans and Democrat last week, for a total of 5 14ers now. My 8 year old son also has 3 14ers. They do need a little bit of motivation to make the summit, but the the satisfaction of accomplishment is always worth it. Learn to push yourself harder each and every time. This sounds like what you did.
Nice work! Way to stick with it, great accomplishment. Love the trip report!
