We decided to stay in Leadville again since we get a late start out of Junction on Friday, so we got a little later start than we prefer. Such a nice road to the trailhead for a change. We started up a little after 6 am. It was busier than we thought it would be. A 5 or 530am start would beat the traffic. The stream crossings were easy.
It was a very pretty morning. The hike is quite steep throughout. The sun didn't peek over until we got to the saddle. The wind really picked up and it was cold. At least there wasn't much further to go!
He never did quit smiling
A bit of boulder hopping to get to the summit. It was a beautiful day and nice company on the summit. It was about 9am. We were able to get out of the wind and enjoy a nice snack for a good half hour.
Mooch
Time to head back. Took most of the time going down the hill to get feeling back into my hands! In no time we were back into treeline and the shorts, T-shirts, and obligatory head dunking were needed.
Great 14er. Done by noon. There were some tents set up in the early parts of the route for those looking to camp. There are some RV type campgrounds around too but I think they were full. Great waterpark in Buena Vista to sit down for a picnic.
