As most of you probably know, Evans is a very good hike for beginners. Which I still am but also bringing along my GF (going for 2nd) and a co-worker (going for 1st). We all just moved from Florida a month ago, so it can be done. Left Denver around 6, got to Summit Lake TH and started hike a little after 7. Route goes to right of lake and right of picture up over Spalding and then across the saddle shown here Saddle between Spalding and Evans
Weather was perfect the whole day. This a very short hike but we didn't see nearly as many people as I would have thought....until the top. The only "tricky" part heading up Spalding Lisa and Saveuy heading up SpaldingSaveuy "getting technical" up Spalding
Shot of Grays/Torreys (my 1st and 2nd last yr) Grays/Torreys
I had wanted to do the Sawtooth over to Bierstadt but my teammates were not up for the challenge today.Sawtooth over to Bierstadtants on Bierstadt
The hike gets more challenging once you cross over the saddle and start heading around and up to Evans summit boulder field on slopes of Evans boulder field2 on slopes of Evans
It's pretty much all boulder field until you reach the tourist trail from the upper parking lot on North America's highest public road parking lot just below summit
The trail from there is obviously easy and makes the summit a crowed and popular place. We made the summit about 10:20 Lisa and I summit shot
Our group did not want to try and down-hike the way we came up, so we decided to head directly down the Northeast Face heading down
This is a very direct, steep, and short route back. The rocks are very loose so be careful heading down this route. Back to TH a little after noon looking out from parking lot in Idaho Springs and Tommyknockers for beers/burgers soon after.
Overall great day of hiking. Short elevation gain and distance but good training for the next one(s).

To make it a much longer day you can start @ Echo Lake and finish the same route you did once yuo reach summit lake. Mt Evans Wilderness is very beautiful through that drainage.
I did this same exact route on 8/18/11 I thought it was beautiful and just right for a casual mid week hike. Congrats on your hike and I love the shots you got along the way!
