Watching the skies on Yale
Full Trip Report Here I took a couple of relatives up Mount Yale Monday. It was an interesting day as far as weather. There were clouds as soon as we started, all low level and broken. Some burned off as the sun came up some remained. We saw some weird clouds hanging out over Taylor reservoir below the level of the surrounding mountains. They slowly built as the day went along. A banner cloud formed and remained on the summit of Yale all day, so once on the summit ridge it was hard to watch the weather situation. Basically the day just came down to keeping a close eye on the weather and trying to go as fast as two people from Missouri could handle. We were able to get the summit and return to treeline with no rain in sight. However we did not make it back to the car before the clouds grew and turned into a thunder storm. We were plenty low when it did though. The new section the CFI built is awesome and easy to follow. A huge improvement over the old trail that was washing out more and more every year.
