11/6/2010 Posted On: 11/6/2010 By: MountainHiker Info: There was snow on the road after getting into the trees. It was never more than a few inches deep and was packed down from being driven on. It was frozen the night of Nov 5 and slushy in spots the afternoon of Nov 6. I used 4 wheel to make sure I didn't slide on the hills.

4/28/2010 Posted On: 4/28/2010 By: seekanddestroy99 Info: I was able to get a 4WD to the Emerald Lake Picnic area. This is about 1/2 mile from Elbert TH. Probably be clear after a week‘s worth of hot days. A Toyota Mini-Van made it a mile behind me.

12/20/2009 Posted On: 12/21/2009 By: oldschool Info: Was up there Sun 12/20/09. Road closed a good 4.5 to 5 miles from the trailhead. Long walk! Tried to make a go of it but the road was deep with snow. Have a 4wd Pathfinder.
12/5/2009 Posted On: 12/7/2009 By: sgladbach Info: Passable in a n all wheel drive. Sunday, there was snow, so things may have changed.
12/8/2008 Posted On: 12/8/2008 By: SteamboatDog Info: No problems getting there yesterday, 12/7, with my standard jeep liberty. About 2-3 inches of packed snow on the road. However, I hear its suppose to snow today. You could easily get to the Mt. Massive trailhead yesterday too, but I‘m not sure about N. Half Moon Creek.
11/21/2008 Posted On: 11/21/2008 By: J2TheZ Info: There is a lot of packed snow/ice up the the TH, but with some careful driving any car should be fine to get to the TH
8/13/2008 Posted On: 8/13/2008 By: stlouishiker Info: Road is fine for all cars. Pretty bumpy in spots for small cars but still doable.
6/23/2008 Posted On: 6/23/2008 By: GAGuy Info: My wife and I headed up on Sunday 6/22/08. The TH is completely snow free and the road in is in great shape. No worries on bringing a compact car up there as of today. Enjoy. :)
6/18/2008 Posted On: 6/18/2008 By: Geogirl Info: I hiked Elbert on Saturday (6-14-08). The TH is completely clear of snow.
6/7/2008 Posted On: 6/7/2008 By: Kojones Info: Drove to the TH yesterday as I was in the area. Road is dry all the way to the TH. I drove about 2.5 miles further and it was dry all the way past as well.
5/21/2008 Posted On: 5/21/2008 By: thunderinacircle Info: There are patches of snow on the road but only 2 or 3 of them are big enough to maybe stop you. Drove a Honda Civic about halfway between Halfmoon creek campground and the Elbert TH. Some guys in a Jeep were going up on my way down and said they had checked it out earlier and were going to drive to the Massive TH. Bring a shovel and with only a few minutes digging you could make it with any vehicle.
3/3/2008 Posted On: 3/3/2008 By: kylerlott Info: The dirt road to Halfmoon creek is plowed for about a half a mile after you turn. Instead of a "1 mile hike to the trail head" it ended up taking us a little over 4 hours. |
