3/21/2008 Posted On: 3/21/2008 By: Shad Info: Blocked by snow at 8650 feet 2.25 miles before where the Colorado Trail leaves the road. Almost 5.5 miles from North Cottonwood Trailhead.
9/26/2007 Posted On: 9/26/2007 By: Lane Meyer Info: Previous reports state that a car can get to the TH, but I would use extreme caution if you choose to do this. The summer has not been kind and there are DEEP ruts combined with big rocks in two seperate sections. Colorado Rocky Mountain School got their shuttle bus up there, and it did a great job of digging the holes deeper at the tough section.
7/22/2007 Posted On: 7/22/2007 By: womanhiker Info: If you can navigate well (and don't have a brand new car), you can get up to the trailhead in a 2WD car. The tough part is about a mile in. After that, you won't have any problems! We did it this weekend in a Civic!
7/2/2007 Posted On: 7/2/2007 By: beesting Info: The road up to the trailhead is definitely not for 2wd vehicles. There is one washout near the bottom section with gulleys that can be trouble even for 4x4's. Make sure you have high enough clearance for negotiating rocks.
5/12/2007 Posted On: 5/12/2007 By: gb Info: Road open all the way to the end 5/8/07. Would be very rough for a passenger vehicle, as it is quite washed out.
5/30/2006 Posted On: 5/30/2006 By: wcrosman Info: Road dry and rough but passable for passenger vehicles. Much rougher than 2 years ago. Trail to Harvard and Columbia dry up just passed the switchbacks. Then drifts in the trees to the Columbia fork. From the snowfield at the base of Columbai to the summit is completely dry. I hauled ice axe and crampons up and down without taking off my pack.
5/16/2006 Posted On: 5/16/2006 By: Tparker Info: Road is open, rough for first mile on county road. Trail is good shape to the Kroenke Lake / North Fork Trail Intersection. Some snow on trail, with no real limitations
4/25/2006 Posted On: 4/25/2006 By: killingcokes Info: Driveable to the end. Gonna get it soon
6/15/2005 Posted On: 6/15/2005 By: cirelan Info: On 6/07/05 the roads were clear and dry all the way to the trailhead parking lot. |
