9/22/2012 Posted On: 9/24/2012 By: transplant_hiker Info: Road is in good shape all the way to the trail head. Easily traveled by just about any passenger car. I wouldn‘t want a low clearance sports car, but just about everything else should make it! Great fall colors along the way!
7/18/2012 Posted On: 7/19/2012 By: mspalding Info: The Tigiwon road is in excellent condition. If you just pay attention you can easily make it all the way in any passenger car (except a Ferrari). I got a Prius up there in 20 minutes.
7/15/2012 Posted On: 7/16/2012 By: ezabielski Info: This road has a lot of ruts, but there was always a clean line to take. There was a long wheelbase Audi RS5 at the top, so nearly any car can make this drive, but get there early. The parking lot was full at 4:30AM on a Sunday.
7/11/2012 Posted On: 7/11/2012 By: Chicago Transplant Info: The road closure on US 24 for the sinkhole near Tennessee Pass does not impact this trailhead, you can still access the Tigiwon Road from I-70 and taking US 24 through Minturn. The sinkhole closure is well to the south just north of Tennessee Pass.
6/30/2012 Posted On: 6/30/2012 By: mikefromcraig Info: Today (Saturday) parking lot was completely full. You would have had to park about 250 yards from trailhead.
6/22/2012 Posted On: 6/23/2012 By: Johnson Info: Road open and Dry. Passable for passenger cars with careful driving.
6/15/2012 Posted On: 6/23/2012 By: Johnson Info: Open, dry...very dry... passable for passenger cars with careful driving.
3/23/2012 Posted On: 3/23/2012 By: vorticity Info: I called the National Forest Service, Holy Cross Ranger District to find out 2012 plans for Tigiwon Road. Here is the official word: Road will remain closed until June 20, 2012 for Elk issues. After June 20th, they plan to open it full time for normal operation throughout the summer. There are still a few loads of Beetle-Kill logs to bring out, but there are no plans to close the road to move them. At worst after June 20th, visitors will experience short delays while logging trucks move. Vort.
3/17/2012 Posted On: 3/18/2012 By: Dancesatmoonrise Info: Still has continuous snow except for one spot; bottom mile is just starting to melt out and get thin in places.
11/28/2011 Posted On: 11/28/2011 By: BillMiddlebrook Info: Closed for winter
11/27/2011 Posted On: 11/27/2011 By: Unknown Info: Tigiwon road IS STILL CLOSED , or at least it was this morning when I drove out to attempt to hike Holy Cross.
10/19/2011 Posted On: 10/19/2011 By: thefirststraw Info: Tigiwon is definitely open! We were going to climb HC today, but had a blowout before the actual trailhead so we decided to turn back. We did make it about 5 miles though. The road is fairly decent the first 4 miles, but after that gets a little hairy from the logging traffic. Anything with clearance above what a Saab 95 has(pretty much anything) shouldn‘t have much trouble. Snow starts at about 10k.
10/8/2011 Posted On: 10/12/2011 By: Armyclimber Info: Road still closed.
7/9/2011 Posted On: 7/11/2011 By: Carl Info: As the previous post indicates, the road is closed all summer for logging. As of now it's open to foot, bike, or horse traffic. It appears that the actual logging activity might only be taking place during the week (unfortunately the road stays closed on weekends anyway). Around the 4 mile mark the logging equipment has damaged the road. A light mountain bike works fine through this section. I'd imagine they'll grade it before the road reopens. Te bike ride wouldn't be bad with light packs, but at 8 miles and 2,200 vertical, with ski equipment and overnight gear (and rain), it was tough. |
