7/18/2018 Posted On: 7/18/2018 By: ahabel23 Info: I made all the way in a 4WD Rav4 with no scrapes so it's it should be accessible for Subaru's as well. Slow going and careful driving will get you there, especially the last .5 miles.
7/2/2018 Posted On: 7/3/2018 By: juliecausa Info: Made it just below the culvert in my Subaru Forester with no problems. Attempted to ascend the culvert, but it was just a little too steep for what I was ready to face at 5AM.
6/8/2018 Posted On: 6/8/2018 By: msammas Info: I left my backpack there this morning... If you're heading up tomorrow and see a blue/white pack by the trailhead, please stash it behind the toilets. Thanks! As for the trail: road is in great shape just about any 2wd will make it. Trail is in PERFECT summer condition. | 3 |

5/11/2018 Posted On: 5/11/2018 By: Fishscale Info: If you have a vehicle that can get up the road you can make it to the trailhead. The worst snow still remaining is right at the trailhead, so you might have to park at one of the campsites just before it. Even that should be fine in the next day or two. | 2 |

5/5/2018 Posted On: 5/5/2018 By: csprang Info: North Halfmoon Creek has a few small passable snowbanks and one large mud puddle up until Mt Massive East Slopes TH. Any 4x4 should get to that TH no problem. Less than 1/4 mile past Mt Massive TH there are still some larger impassable snowbanks. I witnessed one 4x4 pickup stuck. Would not expect anyone to get to N Halfmoon TH until more snow has melted.
11/12/2017 Posted On: 11/13/2017 By: AnnaG22 Info: Occasional patches of snow and ice, but still subaruable.
10/13/2017 Posted On: 10/16/2017 By: Kcmartinez22 Info: Clear and dry all the way to the 4WD TH. * I drove my 2WD Buick Encore to a 1/4 mile below the 4WD TH. To clarify, I drove the entire 2 miles past the Massive TH, AND 1/4 mile past the fork for 110J with no problems. Did not scrape once. With close attention and good maneuvering it is not difficult. The final hill to the TH is entirely washed out and would have been trickier, though I think it could be done. Since I was solo I did not risk it. | 3 |

9/16/2017 Posted On: 9/18/2017 By: moeller_erin8 Info: Trailhead is still clear all the way, some standing water from recent snowfall. Something to note which I haven't found mentioned - there are no bathrooms at this trail head. Additionally, most of the bathrooms along Halfmoon Creek at the various pick nick sites were locked.
8/19/2017 Posted On: 8/21/2017 By: sooshee Info: Able to drive to trailhead in 2017 Subaru Forester XT and a 2009 Subaru Outback with careful maneuvering. Trailhead had a variety of vehicles parked at it, including Subarus, small SUVs, and longer wheel based trucks.
8/12/2017 Posted On: 8/22/2017 By: DoriMer Info: I parked my AWD sedan at the Mt. Massive trailhead and hiked in. There were a number of Subaru Outbacks and Forresters parked off the road between the Mt. Massive and North Halfmoon trailheads. The vehicles at the 4WD trailhead were all pickups, Jeeps and large SUVs with one exception. Someone made it up there with a rented minivan with probably less clearance than my sedan. How, I can't imagine!
8/3/2017 Posted On: 8/4/2017 By: davidcampos24 Info: I drove in my lifted Jeep Wrangler, and I had no issues! The last 0.5 miles, the road got ugly. There's two small sections that where really rough; 1.) A rock you have to get over 2.) and a big puddle, both you can't avoid. You really do need a moderate/high clearance vehicle in order to get through those sections. If not, just walk the remaining 0.5 miles.
7/22/2017 Posted On: 7/28/2017 By: marc9595 Info: The road is clear all the way to the Massive SW route trailhead. Anyone in a truck or SUV should be able to make it no problem. For timing purposes, it takes about 20 minutes to go those last 2.5 miles from the Elbert/Massive trailheads to the Massive SW trailhead at N. Halfmoon Creek.
6/17/2017 Posted On: 6/19/2017 By: RJ_Greenhorn24 Info: Halfmoon Creek Road dry all the way to Elbert and Massive Trailheads. Typical washboards but nothing too rough (My low clearance Honda Accord had no problem) Happy Hiking!
5/13/2017 Posted On: 5/15/2017 By: mtn_girl Info: Road is blocked by a fallen tree and large snow drift, about 0.2 miles from the start of the 4WD road. |
