9/29/2019 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 9/29/2019, By: supranihilest Info: Unlike Ervin Peak Mount Blaurock is not really that much fun. The descent to the saddle (if you came up Ervin's southwest ridge, which I'd recommend since Blaurock's southeast ridge is beyond loose) with Ervin is easy and after that a bunch of towers and false summits rear up in front of you. The towers are generally best tackled right up and over, but be aware that every single thing you touch on this ridge is loose. Be very careful. You can reasonably climb Blaurock at Class 2+ but again, be careful of loose rock. It might be in your best interest to return to Ervin's southwest ridge, but in case you decide to descend Blaurock's southeast ridge you'll find yourself either traversing on extremely loose rock (think small rockslides each time you take a step) and/or down climbing on said loose rock. You'll eventually make your way under the ridge's face and encounter a set of nasty, loose gullies; continue straight downhill until you can reasonably enter the gullies on dirt. If you're scrambling into the gullies you're probably still too high. Carefully descend the gully until it makes sense to traverse further east onto the grassy ridge, then descend the now easy ridge back to the road. |

5/5/2019 Route: Grey copper Creek drainage Posted On: 5/5/2019, By: cottonmountaineering Info: Excellent spring snow, an avalanche has pushed continuous snow to about 1000ft from the road so was able to get a long ski run in while avoiding the trees There was also another party there skiing the the Willis lake side, looked great but a few gnarly cornices |

11/3/2017 Route: Ervin Posted On: 11/3/2017, By: Tufftommy-BV Info: Road to the TH just past the Winfienld cemetery had a bit of snow but not even enough to put it in 4wd. The route itself faces S and there was no snow on that aspect at all. Along the ridge on top there was a bit on the N slopes but was all avoidable. Only issue I had was trying to stay on the ridge proper over to Ervin - the wind was ferocious. Getting off the ridge meant dealing with a LOT of loose/rotten rock - more than I'm used to in the Sawatch... |
