7/19/2023 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 7/19/2023, By: joannalee07 Info: Trail is in full summer conditions and the basin is full of stunning wildflowers right now. The road is basically a creek past the 2WD trailhead. I didn't feel confident driving my stock 4Runner any higher than the first turn in the road after the TH. We did see lifted jeeps and 4Runners at the top of the pass today. The pass is not open to Leadville due to a remaining snow field after the mine! 6/24/2023 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 6/25/2023, By: cougar Info: Did the loop including London and Tweto. Both roads from the parking area are streams with lots of water. The deep puddle just below the parking spot is still there, and gets deeper during the day. There are some snowfields in spots, up past north London Mine. Ridge to London is mostly all dry and any snow is avoidable. More snow on Kuss, especially on the summit, but rather firm. East slopes of Mosquito still have a lot of coverage from summit, can probably get a 1000 foot vertical run. Most of the unavoidable snow is along the ridge from Treasurevault to Tweto, less while ascending Tweto. Postholed a bit there. I didn't use traction but found poles helpful. The stream in the road going up to the London mine had an iced over surface in the morning. Very windy day. |

6/19/2023 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 6/19/2023, By: sarahmariekirk Info: Ridge is 95% dry, with only a few very short snowfields. Climbed today in trail runners and was happy I did! No traction required. |

5/21/2023 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 5/21/2023, By: LetsGoMets Info: From Mosquito Creek side, Mosquito Pass Road 99% snowed in with 3ish feet of snow up near the mine. Flotation was helpful on the way up and needed on the way down. Ridge itself is mostly clear with a few stretches of knee deep snow. I left my snowshoes at the Kuss/London saddle and was happy with that decision. No traction needed at all. Road is melting but there is so much snow it's going to take a bit. |

2/25/2023 Route: Loop from West Mosquito Pass Posted On: 2/25/2023, By: daway8 Info: Somewhat of a brutal add-on at the end of the day after Kuss-Mosquito-Treasure Vault, especially since I backtracked over the first two. Left snowshoes on partway down direct ridge from Kuss to London then switched to spikes until back on Mosquito Pass Road. Heavy mix of rock/snow. Partly from pragmatism and partly from a desire to practice winter scrambling, I stayed mostly ridge proper which allows for a tiny bit of class 3 if you're aiming for it (liked that better than sidehilling among trap doors). On the return I switched to snowshoes once hitting Mosquito Pass Road which I took up and over the pass to the West Mosquito Pass winter trailhead. Big day. Looked like it would be easy to access about any of the 13ers along this ridge from this trailhead in winter if you had the stamina for it. May do Evans B some other time, possibly with West Dyer for some scrambling action. |

2/12/2023 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 2/12/2023, By: kyrawhitworth Info: Brought the skis and despite having to do some careful stepping over dry spots on the road and leaving them before heading up the ridge—it was very worth it! Snow was great around the mine. Ridge from mosquito pass was mostly dry with a few snow crossings. Flotation (skis for us but lots of snowshoe tracks on the road) and spikes were needed. Our final distance was 9.5 miles as we couldn't make it far on CR12 after the intersection with another lower road (photo). |

9/17/2022 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 9/17/2022, By: mtngoatwithstyle Info: Early Fall conditions today. Very windy and a little chilly heading up but on the way down, warm and sunny. There is a faint trail that appears and disappears as you maneuver the choss and loose rocks-towers. I stayed to the right of ridge proper and then went up a gully. Once up, there is tundra and talus all the way to the summit. Beautiful views. I did not see anyone all day except 2 mountain bikers but there were many Jeeps and ATVs going to Mosquito Pass. |

11/2/2021 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 11/2/2021, By: CoHi591 Info: Wore microspikes from car to summit. After the mine, I was postholing quite a bit up until the ridge, about 6 inches mostly but did plunge to my knees a handful of times - this can be mitigated by hugging the sides of the road. Snowshoes wouldn't be a bad idea but if you go without, at least wear gaiters. Snowing lightly the whole time I was up there. Still Subaruable to the TH but may not be too much longer. Ridge was fine with just spikes. |

10/30/2021 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 10/30/2021, By: Carl_Healy Info: Sorry to have missed the welcomer today, but had a good day in the Mosquito Range nonetheless! Condition notes common to overall route (London Mountain West Ridge + Kuss -> Mosquito -> Treasurevault Loop): Brought microspikes, but didn't use them the entire route. There is definitely snow there, but for the most part it can be avoided and when it can't you're doing some short 4-6” postholes or when hardened the snowfield section is too short to make putting spikes on worth it. Beautiful weather. A lot of the route there was no wind but when it was there it was measured as only 10-15 mph and briefly 20-25 mph at worst. Temperatures measured high 20s to start with but got all the way into the low 40s on the ridges and summits later in the day. Condition notes specifically for London part of the route: 4WD Mosquito Pass road had ice and snow on it in spots that could be avoided. Approaching the saddle between London and Kuss snow was shaded and drifted pretty high on the road but for the most part this could be side-stepped. The ridge itself for London was almost entirely dry. |

3/3/2021 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 3/3/2021, By: WildWanderer Info: I parked at the intersection for Mosquito Pass / 12, but could have driven up Mosquito Pass about a mile in my truck before the drifts took over. You will not be able to drive all the way to North London Mill, as there are snow drifts and a lot of ice on the road. The road had varying conditions, from bare to ice to deep snow drifts. I wore microspikes to North London Mill, as they were very helpful on the rivers of ice. From there snowshoes were necessary to the Mosquito/London saddle. Be careful on the road, as some of the drifts make for a long drop off if you slip. From the saddle I ditched traction to the summit. Beautiful day. No wind. |

7/3/2020 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 7/3/2020, By: wildlobo71 Info: Road is clear to the London Mine TH; it's got some depth of running water in places and is more suited for a good 4WD vehicle with clearance. Hiked London Mountain to the saddle of Tweto/Treasurevault before weather came in. Entire loop is clear of snow on trail - lots of good cornices remain and some snowfields but the exit basin between Tweto and Treasurevault is clean of snow, but wet. Enjoy! |
