Ended up in misery climbing the scree to reach the northwest ridge. Descending via the north ridge was MUCH easier -- almost no scree and much more tundra and larger, stable rocks. Wish I would have gone up and down via the north ridge. Beautiful day up there though -- light winds and abundant sunshine! |

Route has thin snow and is tracked to the split for the NW ridge and winter route where all tracks stop. With spikes (recommended) I climbed straight up the snow (steep) to the ridge and traveled there on mostly dry rock interspersed with snow patches. Buck 45 up and...slightly less down. |

7/10/2020 Route: East Ridge Posted On: 7/10/2020, By: OBC13 Info: There is no snow on the route except for the narrow ridge area starting just below the summit. Without an ice axe this was a questionable place to cross the snow. The snow slopes off to the north (right) and is mounded at the top. At 11 am the snow was also very soft. I chose to downclimb below a snow filled chute on the south side, maybe 100 feet and then climbed up a rock filled chute beyond, Class 3. Loose rocks. I don't recommend that. On the way down I could see the route more clearly and chose a shorter downclimb via a Class 3 outcropping with some loose rock underfoot. In a week or two this snow may not be an issue at all. With an early start and an ice axe the crossing should be ok even now as long as you are very careful. |

The snow was getting pretty soft on the way down around 11:00 but that is to be expected. Snow is not continuous to the main road as there is one section you will have to remove your skis. |

Snow was nicely consolidated in the morning but became mushy around 11 a.m. Guyot looks prime for a ski or glissade. |

The snow is pretty much continuous from 13k down. This route felt very steep as a snow climb. Cornice to climbers right on summit ridge is impressive, stick to the rocks. Needed flotation, didn't use crampons. |

1/12/2020 Route: Northwest Ridge/Slope Posted On: 1/12/2020, By: WildWanderer Info: Wore microspikes from trailhead to turnoff for Little French Gulch. From there I wore snowshoes the rest of the way. Last night's snow buried the previous trench, so I retrenched it. A couple of skiers came after me and smoothed it down, so now there's a nice trench to treeline until it snows again. Halfway up the ridge snowshoes are necessary, and the wind blows away tracks. Mine were gone on my return down. Second part of the ridge had just enough sketchy spots I kept my snowshoes on, but it could probably be done in microspikes. Many cornices are forming on all sides of the mountain, especially on the summit. Snow off-trench is sugary and above waist deep when wearing snowshoes. My trekking pole never reached the bottom of the snow when I tried to see where it stopped. I brought my ice axe but didn't need it, as my trekking pole was sufficient. Tons of wind today. |

Wasn't bad walking up into the basin, but from the basin to the ridge highly recommend flotation. The ridge has far less snow once you can get up there. Great peak. |

10/5/2019 Route: South Ridge, East Ridge Posted On: 10/6/2019, By: supranihilest Info: South Ridge: Guyot's south ridge starts basically on the Georgia Pass road. I parked at 39.429224, -105.907721. From there I hiked up what used to be another road but is now permanently closed, though I cut off of it straight up the ridge after about .2 miles. Simply going uphill in a general northwest trend I eventually hit treeline and then talus at the first ridge bump. After this there are numerous bumps and I skirted all or most of them. Once the ridge hits the southeast ridge (this is the dark red one) a trail appears on the western side of the mountain through the scree. Follow it until it runs out in large, blocky talus. The ridge til this point is Class 2. It becomes Class 2+ en route to the summit, which should now be visible. Simply scramble your way up. Descend the way you came up or descend the east ridge and hike the road back. East ridge to Georgia Pass: an easy though unrelentingly steep and quite loose route. The route is obvious (just go east!) but you'll find you need to be careful with how steep the route is. Not dangerously so, really, just annoyingly so. Once at the road hike back down to your car if you did the south ridge. If you ascended the east ridge you're probably already parked at Georgia Pass. |
