7/26/2019 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 7/26/2019, By: RGrimm518 Info: As other reports have said, some down trees and debris near the trailhead but easily passable. All water crossings were able to be made keeping dry feet. One large snowfield and 3-4 others that are very small. Remainder of trail is easy to follow and dry. Did not bring traction - it wouldn't be helpful anyways. Snow was soft on the way down but no postholing. Started at 4:10am (camped near the TH) caught a beautiful sunrise over Uncompahgre. Sooo many marmots on the way down loved seeing them! Lots of wildflowers in bloom too! |

7/19/2019 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 7/20/2019, By: cwilkening Info: Wetterhorn is in great shape. There is one snowfield to go across gaining the ridge below the yellow dirt section, but if you don't want to cross it, it's very easy to go around. There are about 5 other snow “crossings†if you even want to call them crossing that are maybe 20-30 steps across each. The trailhead parking is limited due to avalanche debris and you will have to climb over some debris right at the gate but once you're past that, the trail is super easy to follow up to the class 3 portion. |

7/16/2019 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 7/17/2019, By: Jajohnson11 Info: Summited with no traction. Microspikes might help on one snowfield to gain the ridge. Didn't use mine though. |

7/13/2019 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 7/15/2019, By: spanish_biology Info: We didn't have any trouble driving into the Wetterhorn trailhead. The trail just past the trailhead has a ton of debris/fallen trees and snow from avalanche, however you can just go right over it and find the trail again. The peak has a lot of snow on it, but we were able to summit without using an ice axe/snow gear. Microspikes/gaiters would have been really nice, as we had to avoid a few snow fields that were difficult to cross in just hiking boots. However, with all the snow this season, this peak is in better shape than some of the other 14ers. |

7/7/2019 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 7/8/2019, By: djacobson Info: Crazy avalanche debris starting at the gate. Route was mostly clear (snowshoes not needed) there was some post holing above 12.5 but not enough to warrant carrying them. We did carry an ice axe which was useful above the ships prow for a small snow field. Totally doable without the axe but there was a small glissade opportunity coming down from the ridge where we used it as well. Carried spikes and didn't put them on although we could have benefited from them in a few spots. The formal route had two small snow areas above the ridge that made it a bit spicy but could be avoided with smart route finding. The final pitch was totally clear and I'd say 85-90% clear above the ridge. Be prepared for mud and one stream crossing that was snow covered but getting hollow. Few more days and it may cave in. Photos attached. |

10/21/2018 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 10/25/2018, By: antoniohconte Info: No snow on the approach. The ridge has maybe 6in to 2ft of snow in the gulleys. The final pitch is bone dry. One could reasonably get away with trail runners and micro spikes. |

9/22/2018 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 9/23/2018, By: Flyingfish Info: The lower route through the trees was a little icy till the sun came up but nothing was concerning. The upper route was dry and the creek sections above 12k were frozen even on my decent at 10am. Plan accordingly if you want to use those to fill water. |

9/15/2018 Route: Southeast Ridge Posted On: 9/16/2018, By: Danger_D Info: Trail is still in great shape. I was able to make it up the last .7 miles in my AWD RAV-4, but there were a few pretty hairy areas. If you have anything smaller or don't want some white knuckles, I would just park at the bottom and hike up. |
