Belleview Mountain Beta

Post by ensanian »

I've been reviewing all the reports I can find, and I'm trying to finalize my beta gathering for attempting Belleview Mountain from West Maroon Pass (or to at least make the false summit at 13,210' depending on time). We're hiking from Aspen->CB and need to catch a shuttle on the CB side, so I'm hoping we may have time to squeeze this in. Hoping for any help on these final couple of questions I have from anyone who has climbed this.

1. For an average hiker how long would it take to get to the false summit and back down to West Maroon Pass?

2. In the gully am I generally heading more towards A, B, or C?

3. On approaching this headwall, which shelf am I aiming to traverse left around?

Thanks in advance!

Hey -- I hiked it in 2021. For what it's worth:

1. My track shows about an hour and a half from W Maroon Pass to the true summit and back. I'm usually a little faster than average; JQDivide's TR says it took them about two and a half. If you get to the false summit, go for the real one, too -- it's only an extra ten, fifteen minutes each way.

2. I followed Acorn22's TR and stayed left up the gully (your route A). Honestly, I mostly remember it being not nearly so hard as I expected; JQDivide's TR says the same thing. You don't actually have to climb the gully at all; on my way down, I stuck to the ridge proper and passed it before I even realized it.

3. I don't remember the headwall at all, sorry.

Hope you can make it. Out of a hundred and forty 13ers, that one is my absolute favorite. I still have a big pano of the summit view north on my office wall.
