Golden Eagle or Bald Eagle

Post by WillRobnett »

Photographed either a Golden Eagle or a Bald Eagle this weekend just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. Fog was a little too heavy to see more than a silhouette.

Luckily, had the Nikon D750 for the shot. High-res / full frame and it's still hard to see in the deep fog. What are your thoughts - Golden Eagle or Bald Eagle?

Golden. Best clue here is that the head length is less than half the tail length. BAEA is the other way round.

I've spent a ton of time researching it, I think you're right! Without having color sight or soaring capture, it's the shape to go on. Head/tail ratio probably is a Golden, awesome! Thanks!

Can’t see it very well but looks to me like white tail feathers indicating a mature bald eagle

Not to hijack... Any idea what this bird might be? I shot this pic a few weeks back on Eagle Peak at the Air Force Academy.

It certainly looks like a golden eagle to me.

WillRobnett, Agree, probably a Golden - here is a shot, cropped from an older camera from Aug 2009 in the Sawatch when I had the good fortune to see a pair of Golden eagles above Missouri Mountain.

All these cool pictures reminded me of this golden eagle I saw next to Blue Mesa Reservoir on the way to Telluride.
