Spain Hikes in November

Post by mlstjay »

My wife and I are headed to Spain for 11 days and wanted to spend a day or two north of Barcelona in the Pyrenees. Any recommendations for a hike towards the end of November? I understand it'll be borderline winter there and similar to Colorado's mud season, but still would love to get out of the city and explore.

Thanks!

Can you make it to the Canaries or Mallorca? They should have better November conditions than the Pyrenees, unless you are looking for near winter conditions.

Sadly won't be able to make it to any of the islands. We're ok with near winter conditions in the Pyrenees - do you know of any good day hikes? We won't be travelling with camping gear.

Unfortunately I have only been to the islands, which is why I suggested them (I was there in winter, but wasn't equipped for winter mountaineering), but I hope you find your answers.

Have a great trip!

Several years ago my wife and I spent a couple of days hiking in the Parque Nacional de Ordesa. The Faja de las Flores is utterly fantastic, but we were very fortunate to join up with a group of friendly local firefighters who 1) got us up the convoluted route to the start of the ledges, and 2) knew the route down at the end. The route down involved downclimbing a vertical face using metal rods fixed into the rock...kind of like doing Via Ferrata without a harness. If you can handle the exposure, it is a truly unique hike. There is also a beautiful hike with numerous waterfalls...up to the Circo de Soaso. We stayed in Torla, and found no shortage of things to explore; highly recommend basing out of there. We were definitely earlier in the year though...maybe late September. Maybe something in all that is worth researching!
