Looking for partner for Shasta or Hood

Post by EatinHardtack »

I am looking for a partner or 2 to make an attempt on Mt. Shasta or Mt. Hood this coming may/june. Looking at attempting Casaval Ridge or Avalanche Gluch on Shasta and the standard Hogsback route on Hood. My time frame is either the weekend before memorial day weekend or the first weekend in June. I understand the weather in the PNW is still unpredictable that time of year but that's my only option and I'll give it a good shot. At least with four days we might have a good summit window in there, but we'll see. Looking to fly out of Denver wednesday night, summit attempt Friday, see sights then fly home Sunday. Tickets are cheap right now on southwest to either Portland or Reno/Sacramento for flights. I have a deal with a rental car company so that can be split down the middle. I'm not looking for a huge group of people just a select one or two.

If anyone is interested let me know and we'll talk.

If you don't find any individuals for the climb you might consider going on a Mazamas trip (I'm a member). You don't need to be a member to go on a trip.

If you go this route and want to do Hood, you won't need a car. The light-rail serves the airport and costs next to nothing. The trip leader can likely pick you up downtown or wherever.
Portland has a lot of things to see and it's a much more compact area than Denver.

Hey Zach - I'm interested... I'll definitely be attempting Shasta in May/June this year when the weather and conditions look most favorable. Since I'm in San Fran I have a bit more leeway and am ok planning around the weather instead of picking dates now. Keep me posted on your plans and hopefully something can work itself out.

Hey Zach, I'm interested if you dates move just a tad later. I won't be available until after June 10... But I have both of those mountains on my short list at the moment.

When you get closer to figuring out when you are going let me know. Either of those dates are OK with me for Hood, I live in the Portland area so depending on your schedule(and mine) I would be willing to go up Hood with you. You are right about the weather, who knows what it will be doing, currently Hood is getting hammered with snow.
