that is a good article, thanks for posting. Washington has to be one of the tougher states to complete the county highpoints I would think.

Congrats Bob.

is Bob a member here?

I see he is a LOJ member.

A few great quotes in that article:
"We can’t waste our time. We’ve got lists to finish."
"There’s a dichotomy between route-oriented and summit-oriented people."
"If I have a signature, it’s so many mountains, so little time."

Finishing the top 100 prominence peaks in the lower 48 is a huge accomplishment.

Ever since I got into prominence peaks, county HPs, etc., I've looked at Bob Bolton as one of the most accomplished folks on LoJ, Summitpost, etc. Folks like him convince me that the height of a summit is not the only reason to seek it.
Finishing just the 57 Ultras is a far greater accomplishment (IMO) than doing the 14ers, as it involves traveling across the country, dealing with varied conditions not seen in Colorado, and technical challenges not necessary on our 14ers. It's my next goal, one that will likely take a lifetime. My hat's off to anyone who finishes that list.
Bolton actually did something no longer possible--he's got 58 Ultras--when he summited Mt. St. Helens before the top blew off, leaving it with <5000ft of rise.

My favorite quote from the article: “Summits are joy." I couldn't agree more.

The 57 Ultras are pretty fricken' sweet! Thanks for mentioning! A very challenging & dynamic list indeed...and with the added bonus of traveling outside of Colorado but not halfway to the moon.

Question: Why would Denali not be on this list?

There are 57 Ultras in the lower 48 - including Alaska would add 65 more *very* difficult peaks.
