Sam's Throne Rock Climbing
I know this is more of a Hikeing/Mountaineering but if anyone is around the arkansas area and like to rock climb there is some really good stuff at Sam's Throne. Just curiious if anyone has been there before and thought i would share. I uploaded some pictures if anyone wants to see pictures they are in "my photo's" in my profile, i don't feel like making all of them smaller... :D
My wife once asked me why I climb to the top of a mountain when I can see the top from the bottom? I told her, "True I can see what's at the summit from the bottom, but the view from the summit on everything else around is just that much better!"

Is that over there by Magazine Mountain? Have you been to Horseshoe Canyon? Great stuff over there. Mixed sport/trad and lots of it.

It is about 20 minutes from Horse shoe canyon... Only Sam's throne is a state park (unlike Horseshoe) so it's free. But they are the Same kind of rock Horseshoe is bigger and for have more routes though I take it you've been?

Re: Sam's Throne Rock Climbing
I used to climb Sam's Throne back in the day. It's actually really nice; dense sandstone. I remember having to rap down to the base of the climbs from the trail. I liked the natural pro we slung around all those little "chicken heads" on the rock. I'm reaching back in my memory here, but I do remember Sam's being near the little town of Mt Judea...which is (was) in a "dry county"...so BYOB. It came in handy once when we were 4 wheeling through a nearby creek and got stuck. The local boys who helped us out were more than happy to take a 6 pack of beer off our hands as a little "thank you".

Yup nothing changed... lol You will want to bring everything with you as well. the closest town for anything is Russelville off interstate 40 and it's 50 miles away, through curvey roads... and i mean like blind curve roads... so come prepared. you are exactly right though, we usually camp about quarter of a mile from Chicken Head bluff and then rapel down it, and walk the half mile or less to Sam's Throne
Here is a Pic of Sam's Throne when when we were about to rapel down Chicken Head that morning

Love the Throne. I have not been there in awhile. I beleive that just down the road hwy (123) there is another great place to climb called cave creek. If you know land owners, its just about endless climbing. Iam working some routes down near Red Star in the Ozark National Forest.
In time of trouble . . . He shall set me upon a rock.

I got lucky and scored an old guidebook before they went out of print. Nice place to climb.
Sack up and climb.
