Yale conditions

Post by kunruh »

Has anyone been on Yale lately? Had been up there memorial day, and lots of snow on the Collegiates. Wondering what the conditions are with all the heat? Will we need any snow gear?

I was up yesterday. No snow gear needed really. We didn't hit any real snow (except for what we called the Mt. Yale mini glacier in the trees...a few feet thick, hard as a rock but its not very big) until you get above treeline and approach the last steep section. There are still several snow fields that you will need to cross there. But they are melting really fast so I am not sure how much longer they will be there. They didn't pose an issue on the way up or way down though.
