Guanella Pass conditions... FROM THE SOUTH
I drove up toward G. Pass yesterday, on a scouting trip. The sign at the bottom, the big electric traffic sign, says the road is open to Clear Lake,
BUT the gate at about mile 11.5 is closed and locked ... "Road Closed ... No Winter Maintenance".... Funny, not a drop of snow on the
road all the way to the summit of G Pass !
So, my dog and I walked up the road.
My batteries went dead right below the summit! And yeah, DUH, I didn't have any spares! So, I didn't get a shot of Bierstadt. I met some guys
coming down who had been up there without snowshoes or even microspikes. They said they made pretty good time. The trail through the
scrub oaks looks muddy and slushy. I'm thinking I might wait a couple more weeks.
