Kite Lake

Post by droidly »

i am climbing DeCaliBron the end of july and would like to stay at kite lake the night before the summit...i am wondering if the campsites at kite lake are difficult to secure. when is the best time of day to go up? i'm assuming that people summit and release the spaces in the afternoon. is it likely i will find a spot in the afternoon the day before i summit?

When we did the DeCaLiBron a couple of years ago it seemed like there were quite a few campers that were starting to pack out when we finished at noon-ish. It was a busy day and it still seemed like there was plenty of spots around the lake. We did the hike in the middle of July.
Seems like the times that I need a mountain the most are the times that I can not get to them.

I got to Kite lake in the evening last year and was pretty surprised at how many spots were still available. I ended up sleeping in the back of the truck but there were people that showed up after dark to set up their tents in the grass behind where I was. I would imagine you would be ok to show up in the afternoon.

Also, if you are interested and decide to change dates there will be a few of us there. It is a good cause!
