the Snowmass Crk Trailhead - you can fish up snowmass creek once past the ranch...it is small stream fishing. The crk is full of greenback cutthroat that jump on flies... There are beaver ponds up higher if you like that type of fishing or even Snowmass Lake.

cheers

just look on a map. Any water you see is going to have fish. High alpine lakes sometimes freeze solid if they are shallow. An out of the way alpine lake is worth its weight in gold. Every time Ive made the effort to get to one it is obvious that few, if any, people do the same and the fishing is great!

Agree with Rich H. I've been up to Snowmass Lake 3 times from Snowmass Creek TH and the first time was without a rod. Lesson learned and I've brought my flyrod with me the last 2 times. The beaver pond below the switchbacks to the lake hold nice fish as does Snowmass Lake. I've also heard that some of the steams/lakes in the Chicago Basin area have decent fishing too.

Good luck and happy fishing.

Pine Creek is a beautiful trail and valley that has excellent stream fishing (there's 14ers on either side of you and many 13'ers further up the valley, too). Nice camping. Never very crowded. Trailhead is located between Buena Vista and Leadville. Happy trails! :D
As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes "s**t happens", then you live with the illusion that your epic genius and profound wilderness intelligence has put you in total and complete control of yourself, your partners, and the mountain. How mystified you'll be when "s**t happens" to you! - FM

Best big water: Lake Fork downstream from Lake City (Redcloud, Sunshine, Uncompahgre, Handies, Wetterhorn)
For alpine lakes: Kroenke Lake (Yale), Como Lake (Blanca, Little Bear, Ellingwood), North Colony Lakes (Humboldt).
Fun small water with big lakes nearby: Upper Colorado River in RMNP (Longs) is a blast to wade wet in the summer for browns on dries. Grand Lake, Granby, and Shadow Mountain reservoirs are nearby. Main trailhead for Longs is on the east side of the park, though.

Mt. Huron. Clear Creek above Winfield and above the TH for Huron in the flat beaver pond type areas has fishing.

San Luis. Good beaver pond fishing along the trail.

Lake Como - if you can't catch trout in that lake, something's wrong. :)

I think they used to stock salmon in Beaver Creek Reservoir if I'm remembering correctly. Last time I was up there (May 2008), I just fished for trout which is always good on the South end of the lake.
