Yo Deuce! See you updated your peak checklist...
Either someone is very observant, or is cyber stocking the Deuce, or, he pays more attention to the checklists of others more than one would expect from someone that shows disdain for said checklists. ;)

Yes, Deuce, I'm glad to see you have been very busy lately. Time to start cracking at the cent's. Then boast anyway.

ON a serious note, this comparison of 14ers and cent' 13ers from various members has been interesting.
Chi-Trans, Benners, and SJP all had some good points, to name a few.

It does come down to how well you can navigate (with map and common sense) through the terrain of the 13ers. Some of the harder 14ers helps to build those skills.
Good partners matter too.
Skills acquired throughout the years while one seeks to reach these summits helps too, such as being able to climb in different seasons and conditions. Snow climbs can make a climb far more enjoyable and sometimes safer on certain peaks.

And I'll boast...and when I finish I'll boast more!

Honestly though, this is one of my two MAJOR 2012 goals that I am very determined to be successful with.

EDIT:
Damn! Brian you beat me to it!
OK then, just keep on bragging about things you will do, it's your call, I just don't get the point. I can't believe it but I agree with Deuce on this one.

To get the thread back on track instead of the usual devolving into whose ice axe is biggest.......

I have not done many centennial 13ers and certainly not any of the difficult ones yet. Got turned around on Ice this winter and I can say that that is one tough mountain. Based on everything I have heard and read regarding the centennial 13ers, it seems that, as a whole, it will take more effort as well as climbing skill to complete them, as opposed to the 14er list by their easiest routes. Hopefully by the end of this summer I will have a hands-on basis for deciding, but I am pretty sure the 13ers will win out. This thread, and it's posts by more experienced members will def. come in handy when doing my due diligence in researching these mountains, so thanks all!

Only SurfNTurf's checklist, and specifically his Calendar of Climbs, to make sure it is correctly dated and spelled.

Alright I'm out...I can see no one gets my dry sense of humor. I post helpful information when I can, and post humorous commentary to spice things up...guess this isn't what people here are looking for.

From now on you'll only see my posts if I am looking for a climbing partner.

Over and out.....

and happy climbing :)

Yes Bthom, but I posted no repeats and no thirteeners. Some fair criticism was levelled at the Deuce earlier in the thread and I revised my peaklist to respond to that. Maybe later I'll add the others. I'd really like to have more of my snowflakes acknowledged after all.

Seems to me that the most accomplished climbers are not the ones that like to toot their own whistles like the little engine that could. And don't let that statement suggest that I include myself on the short list of those "most accomplished". I don't.

If you do something cool, others will comment. There's no need to do it yourself in big bold type and with lots of emoticons. Humility is not a bad word.

Thanks to all of the accomplished climbers that responded in the thread.

It hurts to agree with you, but every once in a while I have no other choice.

Even a blind squirrel from the flatlands occasionally finds an acorn.

I have, on rare occasion, agreed with someone from Kansas. Just not over most important things. Like college football, basketball, or politics. And in Kansas, there's not much else to argue about.

Except apparently mountaineering. :D

LOL...... This thread has become quite the funny! Hey.... don't we all just want to hike and have fun? :D Yep yep yep! I think we do! Speaking of which.... can some of you devote your time to making this weather go away so that I can continue my hiking? Thanks! Appreciate your help in advance!

Remember.... the only person you have to prove anything to is you this sight just provides a cool way to share our experiences and I kind of love it!!!!!!! =D>

In fits and starts, it has been meaningful. You can always add something instead of a cute plus one.

A contrite Deuce.

I realized today while bushwhacking that despite the goals I hope to achieve before I die(read: get struck by lightning/attacked by mountain lion), the real reason I climb mountains is for the thrill of the summit and pushing myself to new levels I didnt know I was capable of. It's not a race to get there first, and I try to enjoy every step and slog along the way. When I accomplish something I deem fit to make a thread/brag over, I'll enjoy the congrats and my 'highscore', but that shouldnt be why any one of us climb 14ers or climb the little ones like I do.

So I guess what I'm saying is don't take the numbers on your profile too seriously, dont use it as justification to bloat your ego and whatever you do, dont make climbing mountains a chore. I might get halfway through the 14ers and decide the whole thing is stupid and there are plenty of 7k unranked peaks in my very backyard I should explore. The whole peak bagging thing has exploded over the last few years and thousands of people have caught the fever, most have a good 30-40 years of climbing left in them. If I was so bent on climbing as many 'highest 100' and ultra prominent peaks as possible, I know my desire would run out before the mountains would. I dont want to be burnt out by the time I'm 35. So I dont plan on letting that happen.
