I'm trying to get a connection to him through her, but would never tell someone that perhaps they'd be lucky enough to be in his presence. Also, from what she's said about him he doesn't have any attitude of greatness, just loves to climb.

On a side note, when she first told me about the guy I called bulls**t on her. A few years back she nonchalantly told me, "So and so's ex-boyfriend just got back from climbing Everest for the third time." She had no concept of what it means to actually summit Everest once, let alone multiple times. Well, Luis has now done it 6 times.

Sorry... still don't see anything that says he summitted K2 even once, let alone three times. What years were they?

Come on dude give her a break, it is a simple comment about a tent not about her friend's accomplishments.

But the K2 part is on the home page in the scroll down screen

The main page doesn't even have "K2" on it. The "Expeditions page says:

Then it says he soloed Dhaulaguiri in 2006 -- really impressive. (But the only subsequent expedition to Aisa he mentions.)

Where in the World Wide Web does it say he summitted K2 even once (expect on this thread)? Or is this some kind of weird psychological experiment?

kimmarie - who cares if he didn't summit K2? So you misinterpreted, or misremembered, or whatever. He's still obviously a better climber than the vast majority of people on this site.

Camilo is bad-ass no matter what.

As for being a vagrant skier, some tips and/or suggestions:
1) Don't bogart
2) Don't be smelly
3) Don't ride together on the lifts - you meet new people who might have hot tubs/other facilities you can use or even offer an occasional crash. If crashing offer to cook or buy groceries and be tidy.
4) Look into renting a small Winnebago. Tons cheaper than lodging and a damn sight more comfy than camping in the winter (are you really that nuts?) You must give comfort it's due - camping will suck real fast I promise unless you are trying to get hard for a winter K-2 trip
5) Accept that there will be times when camping or bumming will get old and suck. A fresh powder day will evaporate all discomfort.
6) Learn to find warm and dry. Unless you are highly experienced in winter camping you will find yourself cold and damp which SUCKS so find those places of respite right out of the gate.
7) Have an adventure and learn to get over it when your buddies piss you off...

Riiiiiight...... I think this "camillo" fellow is pulling your leg. Nobody has summitted K2 three times. As near as I can tell only two people have summited twice: SHERAP JANGBU (2000, 2001) and Josef RAKONCAJ (1983, 1986).

No, it's the truth! And this is the tent! Really lightweight - only 45 pounds! It's great for when you are camping with 9 of your best friends...

It's forums similar to this one that keeps me coming back for more on 14ers.com.....the thread starts out innocent, laid back...and then something is said.....and the whole vibe and initial topic is changed, usually because some sort of debate has begun. I love it....it's like my soap opera through the day I can't wait for the ending....did he or did he not (Camillo) climb K2 three times.
