Was in Bear Lake area and Aspens have started to change colors there, still very minimal. Feel free to post your findings here.

Missouri Gulch had some aspens starting to change color. Same with Mount Evans Wilderness.

RMNP is starting to show some fall colors! My favorite time of the year.

East side of Monarch Pass is starting to change.
As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. For sure I think the drought is affecting a lot of aspens. Many are turning a brownish yellow, with the leaves going brittle.
Drove through Kenosha pass today, only about 5% are starting to turn.
Mt Evans wilderness was about 30% though.

I was down in the Telluride area and pretty much all of the aspens were green still. Only a few leaves in a handful of trees were yellow. This surprised me a bit as this area is in the most extreme drought and that generally seems to be the consensus on the cause of very early turning in places like Kenosha.Bombay2Boulder wrote:Was anyone out in the San Juans last weekend? Any recommendations of good 14er routes to climb with good views of the colors? Looking to go check em out this weekend. Preferably somewhat close to the Front Range area.

I hiked Chicago Basin Friday-Sunday. A couple yellow trees near Purgatory, and a smattering of dead leaves on the ground; but, echoing the other replies, most trees were still green.Bombay2Boulder wrote:Was anyone out in the San Juans last weekend? How are they looking?
