Follow the Crystal Peak - Northeast Ridge Route to reach the summit of Crystal Peak. The remaining route over to Father Dyer Peak is visible from here -
1.
2 and
3 show portions of Father Dyer's West Ridge that connects to Crystal Peak.
From the Crystal summit, descend southeast over 350' of elevation to reach the saddle between the two peaks. Continue along the West Ridge toward the summit. There are a couple of rough spots but it's still Class 2.
4 looks back along the ridge. Reach the tiny summit after about 125' of elevation gain from the saddle.
5 shows the lower, northeast summit.
On your return route, it is not necessary to go back over Crystal Peak. The fastest descent is to drop down the North Slope to reach Upper Crystal Lake -
6. Walk northeast along the summit ridge toward Dyer's northeast summit. Stop before the center of the ridge -
7. Look left down at Upper Crystal Lake and locate a suitable descent route down the North Slope. No trail is present on this slope. It's relatively stable but gets worse on the lower half. Take your time and determine the best terrain during your descent. Angle northwest down the slope toward the south end of Upper Crystal Lake.
8 and
9 show the north slope. At the bottom, hike around the right (southeast) side of the lake and pass an old mine building. Find a small trail that continues north to reach a larger trail that comes up from Crystal Creek. Follow this trail across the south slopes of Peak 10 and down into Crystal Creek. The trail eventually turns into an old road that leads over to the old mine building near Lower Crystal Lake.
