Trailhead

From U.S. 6 west of Loveland Pass, exit at Keystone and drive to the Montezuma road near the east end of the ski area. Drive approx. 5.5 miles to the town of Montezuma and look for the 264 road on the left, at a stop sign near the middle of town. Turn left and drive about 1 mile to find good parking on the side of the road. The road is also known as the Santa Fe Peak road.

Route

In the center of Montezuma, turn east on the 264 (Santa Fe) road and drive through a residential area before the road turns more rugged as you switchback up along Morgan Gulch. There's no "official" trailhead so drive as high as you like and park on the side of the road - 1. Hike up the road ( 2) to reach the saddle between 12,474-foot Morgan Peak and Santa Fe Peak - 3 and 4. Follow the road as it switchbacks southeast up Santa Fe ( 5) to reach more gentle terrain, above 12,600'.

At a road junction ( 6), stay left on the 264 road or take a more direct line to the right and continue south ( 7 and 8) until you can see the summit, to the south - 9. Continue along the road ( 10) and just before it bypasses the summit on the right, turn left ( 11) and hike to the top - 12, 13 and 14.
