Kelso Ridge on a great Winter day

Fun (and tiring) hike of Kelso Ridge yesterday with Lee (mountainlight241). We met at the Bakersfield parking lot at 6am and headed up on skis. We were well equipped with the standard stuff (BSP, crampons, ice ax) and decided to skin up to the hut at the start of the ridge and dump our skis there and just hike it since snow conditions were questionable and we really just wanted to 'hike' the ridge.

...and done! back at summer TH. just a 20 min ski to car.

This hike was a little harder than I anticipated. Next time I won't be boozing the night before, sleeping for two hours, and coming off a hard week of marathon training. It took 10hrs car to car from winter TH. good times.

That Picture at the Crux is awesome. How was the road to the Summer Trail head? Deep Snow?

It seemed like you could prob drive up a ways to the fork in the road? Everything was well packed down to there. But it was mostly 4 wheeler, snow shoe, and ski tracks up higher.

Great concise trip report, and the pictures are GREAT. I have been considering this route for some time for a summer hike, I don't have the skills and equipment (not to mention cojones) to attempt it in winter. Thanks!
