For the benefit of our friends in Chicago who may not be familiar with the terrain surrounding the Mountain of the Holy Cross, I spent today following a portion of James's planned route and took some photos. For the 14ers.com faithful, my apologies that this is not a true "14er" post, and I trust you will understand under the curcumstances. This map shows the portion of his planned route that I followed (in red), and if you look closely you can also follow the remainder of his planned route included on the map.

I saw a total of 9 people, 2 backpackers high in Fall Creek Pass, and 7 hunters along the Jeep Road I used to access this portion of the route. I heard a helicopter early in the day, but did not encounter any other folks along the trail. Visibility today was unlimited and I got off the trail as much as possible, but didn't see much else.
We here in Colorado are pulling for you and a sending positive energy!

It looks like I, and many others, were only 50 feet away from his camp and didn't even know it. There are scarcely more beautiful places he could have chosen. Peace.
