Finally having an open week day to hike a 14er, I set my sights on Huron. Having done most of the 14ers 'close' to Denver, Huron seemed like a viable option without having to camp the night before. I picked up my friend Jill around 4:15am in Denver and headed west. The sky was absolutely cloudless and the moon was brilliant.
Moon setting over the Sawatch Range
Including pit stops, it took us just under 3 hours to reach the trail head. It was a fun little 4WD experience from Winfield, and while 4WD isn't necessary, make sure your vehicle has the necessary clearance. I wouldn't be comfortable taking a Civic past the Winfield parking lot.
We finally got underway a little after 7am, and there was not a cloud in the sky. It was a little cooler than the 95+ degrees in Denver, my vehicle read 37 degrees.
Pumped to get going! A better Monday than most...
From trail head to tree line is pretty straight forward (actually the entire path is), but be prepared for countless switchbacks We moved at a pretty steady pace and encountered a few hikers on the way. Huron overlooking us Sun hitting the wildflowers
We finally summited about 2.5 hours later, and had the entire summit to ourselves for a good 20+ mins... a bit different than Quandary on a Saturday haha. bamsauce The yoga instructor doing her thing
After a good 30+ mins on the top, we made our way back down in a little over 1.5 hours. It was an easy descent, with no real inclines to speak of back to the parking lot. Little bugger wouldn't get off the path! Why are we headed back to Denver when there are so many 14ers around!?!
Anyways, it was a very doable 14er. Could easily be done as someones first. Take care!

Good report, I really enjoyed the hike up Huron a couple months ago and I agree that is one of the easier hikes. One of the more scenic too. Enjoyed your report!
