 Easy hike to Humboldt Pk
We arrived at the upper 4WD TH on Friday around 3pm. Packed our gear and started heading up to South Colony Lakes.

We saw some pretty columbines along the way...

And lots of marmots! and big horns also, although they were hard to picture.

We arrived at South Colony Lakes around 5.30pm (took us 2 hours and a half to walk the 4 miles from the TH). I think there is a shortcut somewhere along the way, but we decided to walk the road since it was easy to follow. We got the perfect campsite, just below the "mean looking" Crestone Needle (you'll understand this comment later when I write the report on CN).

The next day we woke up not too early because it had been rainning all night and the wind was hauling, so no need to rush up the mountain in bad weather. We started our hike up to Humboldt Pk around 8am, the sun was starting to finally shine. Some nice views of Crestone Needle and Crestone Peak:

The weather was improving as we went up. And we made the submit in 2 hours 15 minutes. Easy hike and not too steep.

After a quick lunch we headed down to the lake, we made it fast in 1 and a half hours.
A nice picture taken along the creek on the way down.

Fishing was good at the lake, Mike caught a cutthroat and a brook trout.

The next day Broken Hand Pass would wait for us, that was the goal...
