Quandary solo ski East Face 1st summit descent
3/4/10
Solo ski of Quandary's E Face
RT 5 hrs departing at 8:30

I had the mountain to myself today, a beautiful thing. I thought Quandary was busy and there were many recent tracks from the last couple days. I ran into a group of four snowboarders as I was coming down into the lower bowl, other than that it was a little slice of freedom from humans.

Crystal Peak looking good

The whole enchilada I opted to cruise a few more turns into the basin b/w upper and lower "bowls" and booted back to the ridge

I decided to head north from the bottom of the lower bowl in hopes of hitting McCullough gulch since it was pretty crusty coming up through the trees and I didn't really want to ski down that main trail.

Mellow Glade skiing with a thin spotty sun crust down to the McCullough gulch trail. I was worried it would be hollow but only got down into the sugar once or twice. After a short skin I was able to coast out to the car.

My first summit descent was killer, itchin for more.
