Emcee Smith added a report last week containing some Loveland Pass pics that provided very useful beta. In that spirit, here are some photos I took during a quick training jaunt up Sniktau today. These pictures provide a snow conditions update for the following areas: Loveland Pass, Herman Gulch, Watrous Gulch, Kearney Gulch, Torreys Peak and, to a less useful extent, the Gore Range, Ten Mile Range, and beyond.
At no point today did I posthole or have any need for floatation. Trekking poles were useful, but an ax, crampons, and even gaiters were unnecessary. In fact, the hike to Sniktau could damn near be done entirely on dry ground! However, if you do want snow, there is plenty to be found. As you can see in some of these pictures, staying on the ridge crest from Pt. 12,915 to Mt. Sniktau provides a fun and easy early season snow romp.
