Starting out early, I was in hopes of hitting the summits quickly. This was easier said than done. The trail through the trees is not easy to follow at all (especially in the dark). I probably had to double back 2-3 times. It was rather frustrating. After a spell, I managed to break treeline. The trail is easy to follow up to the saddle, but snow covered a few spots. Got a bit gusty on approach to saddle and once again on saddle.
Once on the saddle, heading towards Shav, I could tell trails were out. I was gonna be scramblin'. On Shav wind was gusting under clear blue skies. Started towards Tab. Again, just went. Didn't bother trying to locate trail. Hopped, skipped, and jumped down to the Shav/Tab saddle. No clear cut trail up Tab with patchy snow, so time to blaze a trail again.
Wind began to die down on Tab and was pretty much non-existant rest of trip. I headed back down. My feet and kees were screaming at me from trying to run down Yale the day before. Got back down in to the trees, made some small talk with uppers. Made only one wrong turn on the way out. I'm tellin' ya, the trail is crazy through the trees.
Overall, a fun double summit'r. But, the trail through the trees... don't say I didn't warn ya!
As I was driving to the TH, thought is would be cool to show a photo of what the peak looked like from the road.
It began at the trailhead before daybreak at 5:15AM.
As I was breaking treeline, the sun was beginning to break the mountainline.
Peaking at the saddle and Shav from the treeline.
As I approached, I got the feeling that Mother Nature would come back to finish her "Angel" at a later date.
Approaching the saddle from the trail.
On the saddle glimpsing the Mighty Shav.
Pondering the trail through the trees on the summit of Shav (taken after return from Tab)
Looking over at Tab in the distance.
The summit of Tab Pk.
And looking back over at Shav.

I know what you mean about hard to follow! Had to backtrack a few times myself on that one. Made for a longer hike for sure. We were driving by there on the 21st and the snow was really coming down on the Sawatch that day, looks like it has melted off some since then.
We chatted with you as you headed back up Shavano after Tab. Hope you found your sunglasses. We went on to Tab, 13712, and Jones Pk, which made for a good adventure that took full advantage of the perfect weather day!
I was wondering how things went after talking on Yale the day before. Sounds like you had a full weekend!
