August 1 has been targeted for a while as the day to climb Missouri with my good friend Tim. The Missouri basin is well known for it's wildflowers and August certainly seemed to be the right time to revel in the beauty and abundance of them. We were not disappointed.
Weather was outstanding with low wind, sunny skis and temps in the 50s up high. After being blown around by very strong winds on Democrat and Lincoln two weeks ago it was finally nice to have some beautiful weather on a 14er.

Picture of the massive Belford shoulder with a nice coating of snow above 13kft that had fallen the night before. Just another reminder of the cooler than normal summer we have had.

Onward we march. The hiking through the basin is easy as elevation is gradually gained. The benefit of stretching the 4500ft elevation gain over 5+ miles.

Not sure what this is (a weed?) but sure looks interesting

The weed is non-native thistle and it‘s nasty - spreads and overtakes everything! Has a pretty purple flower though, but you caught it after it bloomed and went to seed.
My husband hiked this the same day...and lost our camera on the trail too :( So yours are the only pics I get to see unless someone finds our camera! Thanks!
