Peef and Paul hit #3 on Elbert
Chris and I had started up the 4wd trail (9600 ft) on Elberts east side around 3:00 a.m. so we could get a good look at the stars. We made our way to the trail head and to the edge of tree line (11,400-11,600) right around 5:15 so we could sit and catch the sunrise while eating a bite.
The weather was great with a few low hanging clouds but nothing was stacking up at that time.
At around 13,300 ft Chris had, had enough. this was his longest hike yet and where he stopped was going to make for a 9.0 mile round trip out of the 12.0 total.
We came up with a game plan just incase the weather went sour
and Peef and I continued up to the summit.
During the hike up my calves were getting hot from the sun so I had to improvise some protection.
I took my spare pair of socks and cut the toes out of them so I could pull them up over my calves. ( looked funny but it worked. Hence the leggings in the summit picture.)
I met a couple of people who were on there way down and they fed Chris reports as to my progress.
This made my 3rd summit on Elbert and the weather held out for us and made for a great day.

I have several videos posted on Youtube:
