 Chicago Basin
The days I did these peaks, crampons could be used on some areas up Windom if you started early enough and you could glisade some down Windom and Mt. Eolus; however, you didn‘t have too (unfortunately, we did not - partner‘s choice). We did Sunlight and Windom in 8.5 hours and then N. & S. Eolus in 7 hours the next day. We could have done all of them in one day had we known it could be done - and it can, if you get up early. I would say it would take about 13-14 hours.

I plan to do Windom mid-september. I assume the way to do it is to take the train to Neddleton, then camp, then summit the next day, right? Are there designated campsites? Do you leave your camp gear there and will it be safe?

There are designated campsites - but not with numbers, as in ones you could reserve. Yes, because of the train schedule, it works out best to hike in to the basin on your first day, camp that night, and do your summits the next day. You camp gear is only safe at the campsites if you tie it up high or put it in bear/goat proof containers (rentable from REI). We hung ours from the trees with some webbing my partner had brought - worked well. Good luck.
