 Hanging Lake in winter
My girlfriend and I spent 2 days in Glenwood Springs to a do a little hiking and some lounging in the hot springs. We both thought a winter hike followed by hot mineral springs seemed like a great idea!

As you can see, there is a lot of snow there. Even though Glenwood Springs is similar in elevation to Denver, there was a lot of snow which made the hike much more enjoyable. If you've done the hike in summer, it is like a completely different place buried in snow.

We hiked on a Tuesday and started at about 10:30am and finished at 2pm. We saw a few other people at the bottom but had the entire hike and lake/falls to ourselves. The roundtrip distance is about 3 miles.

I recommend good boots and trekking poles at a minimum. There was enough snow that crampons would have worked just fine, and we were lucky enough to have fairly soft snow. If you are there following a cold spell, good traction will be a must.

Some of the coolest pics I‘ve seen on any trip report. I‘ve got a baseball ex-teammate from college that lives in Glenwood Springs. Your report really makes me want to head up there and pay him a visit and check out all there is in that area

Did you happen to go above the falls to spouting rock? I‘ve always been curious what that looks like in the winter too.

Great pics! I‘ve done this hike a few times in summer, but it looks amazing in winter! Think I‘ll try to make a trip up there before spring! :D Thanks!

it was a bit sketchy on the last 1/8 mile up to the lake. The railing helped a little but not much. Extra traction here would have been most helpful.

Yes we did make the short hike up to Spouting Rock but it was not very impressive, as you can see.
