Just came back from a fun hike around the Lincoln group cirque (from the Kite Lake trailhead 12,000). If you'd like to spend the night, Kite Lake offers limited campsites with picnic tables and fire pits (bring or pre-collect firewood as you are above tree line). It is a Fee area ($3/day). County road 8 through Buckskin Gulch was in very good condition - no 4wheel drive required. Democrat 14,148 stands stout as you make your way up the gulch.
In the background Cameron 14,238, which hiked more like a passage between Democrat and Lincoln. You can still see some traces from a recent hail storm. .I arrived early enough to set up camp and get a few hours of flyfishing in. .

As I woke up at 6 am on this fine brisk morning, a number of newly arrived hiking parties were already making their way up the trail. I figured to enjoy my morning with a campfire, freshly brewed coffee, and breakfast. Started the climb at 8:45 am and was at the top of Democrat 14,148 in an hour and a half (definitely cheating ) Views from the summit. .
From Democrat to Lincoln via Cameron. Needless to say, the views were great! In closing out the cirque, Bross 14,172 was a saddle and a few switchbacks away.
Not something i was expecting to see, its not Mt. Evans or anything.
"Yes" to those of you asking: "Is that right? is that an Isuzu Trooper?" Just noticed a trip report from a week ago making a lashing mention of this vehicle. MountainMatt, i guess you will be going to get the SUV since its definitely still there
The storm was definitely moving in, or more accurately, moving around our path to Bross. Aside a few flurries, the weather moved out as swiftly as it moved in. Once at Bross summit, caught a nice view of Kite Lake and Democrat.
The way down from Bross was mostly covered up with snow/hail, calling for an enjoyable ski/slide/jog technique, or walking down would have worked
The 5 hour hike around the cirque provided yet another treat near the finish line.
Really enjoyed this day and place and the friendly people met along the way. If you have a chance to camp here, it would certainly add some spice to the high altitude brew.

I did Bross from Windy Ridge on the 27th. That trout looks yummy I fished a little in the Blue River but got shutout.Can‘t complain though it was a b-e-a-utiful setting.
