We stayed in Lake city for a couple of days then hit Redcloud on the morning of the 27th. This is the 1st time we‘ve been in this area and it was just beautiful!!!!!!
The shelf road that follows the bottom of Sunshine did give me the Jitters a bit. I was driving a Jeep Patriot and had no problem getting to the trailhead. 1 lane on a rough gravel road high up on the side of a mountain also rattled my wife a bit..
Once we hit the trail we ran into a couple of avalanche fields that had some rocks but mostly tree debris frozen in the snow.
Early in the morning it was easy to walk over but in the afternoon it was a bit slick so we put on our Yaktrax which helped a lot.
I can‘t say it enough, you need to see this area to believe it.
I‘ve been on Pikes peak, Evans, Bierstadt and Elbert and this has to be the prettiest.
