 Sunrise on Pikes
My buddy Ted and I left Denver around 11:45pm Friday night. We got to the Crags TH around 1:30am and set off for our first ‘Sunrise Summit‘. This was out first time hiking at night and we ended up enjoying it a lot. We topped out on Colorado‘s easternmost 14er just around 7:30 or so. The only casualty of the day was my Petzl headlamp, which I left someplace on the summit. Hopefully it has found a good home.

Hellz Bellz Buddy!

Doing a night hike was a great idea, and I was amazed at seeing the sky at that altitude at night. Spectacular!

I also want to congratulate Shogun, with that summit on Pikes, he completed the Front Range~

I plan on doing Pike‘s this weekend. How was the trail finding in the dark? I‘ll be solo and would be tempted to try this if the trail was easy to follow. Sounds like a neat experience.

Trail finding in the dark was pretty straight forward, assuming you have a good headlamp. If you are familiar with the route ahead of time it will help a lot. If you want to be on summit for the sunrise I would probably leave at midnight rather than our 1:30am start time.
