 Pikes Peak/Crags Campground
Pikes Peak was added to my list of 14‘ers on Tuesday, June 26th that I have completed. Another Great Day in the Rockies. I left Crags Campground just before 6 a.m. and began the five and a half mile venture through the pines and over Devils Playground to the summit 4,100 feet above me.

Trail was very easy to follow from directions and pictures on this website. No complaints about the steepness on the way up, however, it was slowing going on the way down after two rain/snow episodes.

There are still several small snow fields to cross. Actually I would recommend going around them as I did posthole and spent some time trying to get my leg and boot recovered as the ravens hovered over me.

It was a great day of hiking as I saw deer, elk, marmots and lots of tourist at the top. It tickled my heart to be striding along at a steady pace with my manufactured hiking sticks and hearing the nearby vehicles on the Pikes Peak Road shift down as they climbed the summit with a load of seditary people.

I returned to the trailhead at 4 p.m. completing the 11 1/2 mile round trip with breaks in ten hours.

Dude! Are you sure that those weren't buzzards circling overhead? Isn't it uncanny how they always appear when you're the most vulnerable? You're only at the top of the food chain until you're postholed waist deep. Congratulations on a good summit.

Good report! Glad you went on Wednesday as yesterday would have been a BAD day to be on the mountain.

It's funny, I'm hesitant to climb Pikes Peak because I'm afraid the gobs of sedentary tourists chowing on doughnuts would kill the experience for me.

Nice job, FB! Glad you had a good day on Pikes.

Ravens are almost as vicious as Magpies. Believe you me, those flying dinosaurs wouldn't hesitate to eat you if they could.

And while it's not the best "natural" sound to hear engines revving as you're climbing a 14er, it is kind of nice to hear the vehicles "struggling" with high RPMs and all.
